Best falafel in town
Tarboosh is open again after its post-fire reno. Hurrah!
Great place for a quick lunch in quirky dining rooms: wall murals, hanging beaded lamps. Does a brisk, efficient take-out and has a complete Middle Eastern menu with selections from soup to desserts.
Visited Tarboosh since its re-opening. Place is rather spartan as memorabilia like coffee pot, etc. not returned. Service is good but make sure your order is clearly given to counter help. They aim to please but are sometimes confused by special orders, as in food to meet special diets.
I recently discovered I needed to follow a wheat-free, gluten-free diet. Yikes, this really changes dining out. At Tarboosh I was able to enjoy a special platter prepared for me: four perfectly cooked chickpea based falafel (no pita) with side condiments of hot sauce and in-house homemade garlic sauce. My friend and I shared a more than ample green salad. Very tasty yet simple salad: iceberg greens, fresh quartered tomatoes, red onion, and oregano flavoured oil and vinegar viniagrette. Just right balance of oil to vinegar for me.
I appreciate any restaurant that is willing to accommodate a special diet and Tarboosh gets my vote for many return visits.

Falafel
Well cooked falafel in fresh pita with salad filling and best with homemade garlic sauce and hot sauce.
Best falafel in Hamilton
I always order a falafel and a fruit drink although there are other items: lentil soup, lentils and rice, chicken shawarma, lamb kabobs, kofta (meatballs). Although the baklava is ordered from Toronto, it’s fresh and suitably honeyed.
There’s a hand drawn mural on one wall and recessed light sconces with hanging shades. Although the take-out is usually busy, service in the dining areas is friendly and prompt. Pleasant place for a work lunch or light lunch while shopping.
The bathrooms are spotless – a good indication of the level of hygiene maintained in the open kitchen.
An important point but hey, I still enjoy street food, too!!

Falafel
Falafel are properly cooked, not too crispy. Salad is sometimes chunked and not chopped. Have with the home-made garlic sauce. It’s yummy.
