Tucson has great Mexican food, this is not on that list

Prior to moving to Tucson I heard about the wonderful Mexican food in this fine city. There are dozens of Mexican restaurants in Tucson. This is neither authentic nor very good. Their menu is rather small -- tacos, enchiladas, and a few other entrĂ©es. There are also only a few vegetarian items. For Americanized-Mexican food, the price tag is rather high -- $11 for run-of-the-mill ground beef tacos, or $14 for beef enchiladas (the “house specialty”).

The atmosphere was pleasant. We sat outside on the patio on a gorgeous evening. The heaters were on, I don’t know that they were needed, but they didn’t make it uncomfortable. Had we sat inside, the music may have been a bit loud, but on the patio it was just right. The seats have padding and were very comfortable. The wait staff seemed a bit overworked; thus, the service could have been better.

I don’t think I would go back, but the food/service wasn’t so bad that I would refuse to meet friends there.

What I ate:
  • **

Three enchiladas served in a small iron frying pan, served with beans and rice. The enchiladas were rather bland and had no spice to them. I like my enchiladas to have a good amount of sauce on them—these didn’t. The beef was nice and tender.

The enchiladas were nothing note worthy, on either side (good or bad).

The rice served with them was very good, probably they best food I ate at Blanco’s.

  • ***

The chips were served toasty warm and were very good. The salsa, on the other hand, was very mild. There was not hotter salsa available.
