Pretension at a Price

If you’re out with a date who wants to be doted over, with lots of elaboration on how wonderful the food on the menu will be once it arrives, and who will be impressed by your willingness to foot the bill for the pricey entrees and wines, go for it! I might have enjoyed it more if I hadn’t remembered The Spy Who Loved Me: I couldn’t stop thinking of Jaws, but maybe the head-waiter has had his braces removed, by now.

There are so many more romantic and better Italian restaurants in Seattle. If you prefer atmosphere and quality to pretense, skip this spot.

The food is fine Italian (can’t say whether it’s particularly Sicilian) and it’s not as weird as Luigi’s Grotto (I think it’s called “De Nunzio’s”, now). If I wanted to splurge for some Italian haute cuisine, I’d go to Il Terrazzo Carmine – it’s a bit ostentatious, but not so overly pretentious, and I think the food’s better.

Great Sicilian!

I would eat at La Fontana every day if I could. This place has incredible food and a wonderful, quaint atmosphere. Not the place to have a wild party, but if you’re looking for a great restaurant for a quiet date or evening with your spouse, look no further.

What I ate:
  • *****

Some of the best pesto ravioli in existence.

  • *****

Not always on the menu, but when it’s available, you should definitely try it. Perfect!

Extras:

fun with friends
My meal cost
