Take a pass on the palace
My husband and I had dinner here during our recent trip to DC . Things started out fine- we were seated promptly, the atmosphere was nice and the food smelled delicious. It was all downhill from there. We waited 15-20 minutes for someone to take our order – the only waiter kept walking past us, and even waited on a table seated after us. Finally, the hostess took our order. Another 10 minutes before we got our drinks. Our samosas arrived; they were good and it seemed things were looking up. 20 minutes later, our food had yet to arrive, and we were feeling invisible. The lone waiter kept ignoring us, filling up everyone else’s glasses and bringing their food. Finally my husband got his attention and he filled our water glasses. 10 minutes later, the hostess informed us they ran out of lamb and had to cook up a fresh batch. Two couples seated after us finished their dinners and left. So did both hostesses with a food delivery. We never saw them again. Still the lone waiter kept walking by us. FINALLY our dinners arrived and the smell was incredible. Dishes are served in cool copper pots with what looked like hand forged utensils. The sauce smelled heavenly and tasted equally delicious… until you bit into the crusty, overcooked lamb. I guess in their haste to get the dinner out, they really did a number on the meat. I would have liked to complain, but the waiter completely disappeared and we were both hungry, so we at the lamb without complaint. After finishing dinner, it was another 20 minutes before our table was cleared. We ordered dessert, and surprisingly, that came quickly, though the check took a while. Overall, we were not pleased with being ignored while everyone around us seemed to be recieving good service. We were unhappy with the service, and probably would have complained had we been able to find anyone who cared. We won’t be eating there again, and I would absolutely recommend avoiding the place.
-
Vegetable Samosas
Excellent samosas, and a wonderful spicy-sweet dipping sauce to accompany them.
-
Lamb Vindaloo
The sauce was absolutely amazing, but the overcooked lamb destroyed the dish.
