good korean

I went here and it actually wasn’t too busy at all. Sweet! They offer lots of the standard Korean stuff. Something that caught my eye on the menu was the bibimbop with raw beef. Interesting….

We started off by ordering an appetizer dish of tempura. They were all crisp and well done. The beginning little free appetizers were solid. I like the potatoes one! The bibimbop I ordered turned out to be a cold dish. It had sliced raw beef, and sliced veggies among other things. I added a bowl of rice and stirred it together. Even though it wasn’t warm bibimbop like I was expecting, it turned out really tasty anyways. The rice, raw meat, and veggie dynamic was excellent. I wish I remembered the korean name but alas I don’t.

The service was solid and there are those small tables where you sit on the floor! A solid Korean place, which I wouldn’t mind going back to and actually try the BBQ.

Comes with a bunch of shrimp tempura and I think some sweet potato ones. I just ate the shrimp ones though. Crunchy and tasty!

Great authentic Korean BBQ

Grill it yourself Korean BBQ is always the best.

Koryo offers probably the best Korean BBQ around town. As a child, my cousin took me here all the way from the South Bay. I’ve tried it since coming to Cal, and I gotta say the food still impresses. Bulgolgi, kalbi, and chap jae are wonderful dishes to try if you’ve never has Korean BBQ.

The price? A tad high for college students, but this is your typical price you’re going to be paying at any other BBQ restaurant.

The place might get a little crowded during dinner, but it never hurts to come a little later as they do open late.

authentic korean

as a cal undergrad, it was difficult finding good korean food, but koryo never disappointed. offering the usual kalbee, bulgogi, and other beefy dishes you’d expect at a korean bbq place, koryo is a cook-your-own food (if you want) bbq restaurant located 15 min fr/campus (by car) on 43rd & telegraph in a small plaza. (it’s right next to koryo sushi).

just watch out for the crowds (this being the only decent korean place around berkeley), the wait can be LONG. the parking is also difficult if you go during peak dining times.

i miss eating here and at koryo sushi.
