Abuelo's Mexican Food Embassy

I was having a bit of a challenging day so I decided to treat myself to some good Mexican food along with a glass of wine.

I’ve always enjoyed the soft taco’s at Abuelo’s so I decided to go there for lunch. Even though the place wasn’t busy I was seated away from the main room to where the bar was. I ordered a glass of St. Francis Red (a combination of red wines). It took awhile to reach me but I noticed that it was a very nice tasting wine (I’ve never had this brand before). I was tempted to order my favorite taco dish but decided to try something new. I ordered the Enchiladas De Cozumel. The avocado crepe wrapped meal looked both healthy and delicious. The white sauce with spinach especially appealed to me. When the meal arrived I noticed after two bites that there was no spinach to be found in the meal. I pointed the lack of spinach out to my waitress and she pointed to the sprig of mint on top of the meal that it was the spinach! Like a fool I said, “I think that is a sprig of mint but maybe it is spinach”. She left and I took a bite of odd looking ‘spinach’ and yuck, the next thing I knew I was eating a very minty piece of avocado crepe. I let the waitress know that it was indeed mint and there was no spinach. She said she would get me a side of spinach. After a long time she came back with a few leaves of raw spinach! I asked her if the meal really comes with raw and not cooked spinach and she said yes. I told her, ‘Never-mind’. She came back with a small sauce dish with two or three spinach leaves with hot white sauce poured over them. This did seem like a sweet gesture to me.

Even without the spinach this meal was very tasty and I would order it again. I would also order the red wine again.

The only other thing that irked me was that I had to ask for the receipt and when I was driving home I thought the meal cost a bit too much for what I ordered. Once at home I looked more closely at the receipt and noticed she charged me for the more expensive St. Francis Cabernet. I do know my cabernet from my red wine; I ordered and was served the red wine which cost $1.00 less than the cabernet.
