great restaurant for small groups. we had a table for 6 in one of the many closed off “rooms.” subdued lighting, elegant, but minimal japanese decor made for a sexy yet pleasant ambiance. good for expense account dinners or just fun out with friends.
although served familiy style, many of the menu items were brought to the table one at a time often with a new bowl or small plate. several menu items involve the server bringing a small grill to cook with at the table (robata and shichirin items). this made for a slow and drawn out dinner experience (3 hours on a thursday night) which is nice for some serious sake drinking. the dried skate wing, beef with miso, grilled pork cheeks, and tofu in bamboo basket (with 3 salts/spices) were all very memorable dishes.
