5.0I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. The food and wine were outstanding; the service was quick and friendly. What more do you need?
All right. Yes, for a review, you need more.
This was my first venture with Ethiopian food, and it certainly did not disappoint. I had heard good things from friends and colleagues, but had never gotten around to trying any. I brought two friends with me, and we had a wonderful time.
Ethiopian food is eaten with your hands, utilizing a spongy bread as a utensil. This is perfect for this type of food, as the juices, spices and sauces soak into the bread, as well as providing a way to get the food from the plate to your mouth.
The staff was friendly, and happy to explain any dishes on the menu, or to bring more of the spongy bread.
The best way to experience this restaurant is to go with a couple of people, that way you can be sure to sample a little of everything. Be careful who you choose, though. The food is so delicious, you may see sides of your friends you never thought you would!
If I have to balance this review a little, I’d have to say I found the table and chairs somewhat lacking in stability. I am rather like a bull in a china shop, however, so this should be taken with a grain of salt. It is also a small price to pay for such an incredible experience.
Cottage cheese with spices and spinach / collard greens. Delicious. Not too spicy for someone who doesn’t like spicy foods.
For two.
“Doro Wot, Doro Alcha, Lega Tibs, Zenge (Exotic Beef Stew), House Salad and Gomen Wot.”
(Doro Wot — “Tender chicken marinated in lemon sautéed with butter, stewed in a red pepper sauce.”
(Lega Tibs — “Lamb chunks sautéed in oil seasoned with onions, green peppers, rosemary and black pepper.”)
(Gomen Wot — “Chopped collard greens cooked in herbed oil with onions, green pepper and garlic.”)
This is possibly the best way to be able to taste the most amount of food — a combination platter. Fresh ingredients, wonderfully seasoned and spiced — A+.
“Ethiopian style ground steak tartar seasoned with herbed butter sauce, hot chili powder, served with your choice of three vegetarian dishes.”
Incredible. My friend ordered this, and I wish I had.
Delicious Ethiopian honey wine. Highly recommended.
