The Anodyne cafe is not to far from my old house so it was a convenient neighborhood place to go. I like the hangout vibe it gives. Trendy, but still Kingfield neighborhood friendly (lots of families, not so many hipsters in Kingfield). I believe Anodyne is still locally owned and run so that’s a big plus to me.
The inside is small and decorated in an interesting mix of retro, vintage and contemporary. In the back is a small lounge section with a few overstuffed couches. In the middle rests a long table which houses the coffee station. The menu is written on a chalkboard which hangs above the order station and the rest of the walls are generally covered in art by local artist (cool).
I’ve had both really good and really bad experiences at the Anodyne. The one thing that is consistently good though is the egg salad sandwich (and their other sandwiches). They have an awesome 7-grain bread that has sunflower seeds mixed in. The egg salad is always fresh tasting, rich and creamy. Also, their house coffee is good and strong.
I really enjoy local neighborhood joints so I will keep supporting Anodyne, but I won’t get their mac and cheese or breakfast burrito ever again. The mac was super oily and the burrito wasn’t fully cooked. The middle was cold and the cheese wasn’t melted. I was disappointed by their breakfast performance, especially since I love breakfast food. If you’re there in the morning they have a pretty good selection of muffins and donuts to go with their wicked coffee if you decide to heed my warning.
Keep the sandwiches up Anodyne! I like your style!
