Many meat-substitues, but vegans beware

The menu is extensive with a lot of fake meats, but when I was there several items on the menu were unavailable due to lack of supplies. I don’t know how frequent of a problem this may be.

Vegans beware; I don’t believe this place is as vegan-friendly as they claim. They use honey in several items, and there have been claims online that the meat-substitute products they use may contain dairy.

I went on a Sunday, and there was a sign posted that the snack bar is closed on Saturdays, which I found odd.

The service was relatively bad – very slow and poor communication between employees and customers.

The food I ordered was pretty good, but as I am not a fan meat-textured product I won’t be craving this anytime soon.

What I ate:

The Vegetarian Philly Cheese Steak is grilled seitan with onions and peppers and melted soy cheese on a multi-grain roll with lettuce and tomatoe. It’s very large, I was only able to eat half with a lot of the meat-substitute. I dumped about half the meaty stuff off to be able to bite the sandwich. The best part of it was the roll, very tasty. Not sure how close this is to a real cheestake sandwich as I’ve never had one, but it was pretty good.

A decent vegetarian cheese steak? No way!

This is the only completely vegetarian place to eat in the Reading Terminal Market. Here they offer breakfast and lunch; quick things to take and go. Cash only and no bills over a $20, which is a little inconvenient when – on a few occasions that I have been there – I have only had a debit card on me. That would probably be my only reason for rating it 4 stars instead of 5 stars.

When I come here, I usually order the vegetarian cheese steak, loaded up with lettuce, tomato, onion, and a little bit of mayo (Veganaise, I believe.) It is reasonably priced and delicious.

A little messy, but still tasty and a great veggie alternative to a traditional cheese steak. I have a big appetite and often come here hungry, so I always eat all of mine.
