for the price, i was not impressed ivebeen here two times the first time i went the service was extremely slow and there were only about 5 -8 groups of people they served the white people extremely fast very disappointed i gave them a second chance and came here on a saturday night i ordered calamari and mussels for apetizers. the calamari was good and so were the mussles, but not that good. ive had better for the same price dipping sauces for calamari tasted like they came from a jar clam chower tasted like it came from a can ordered ono for entree fish ws dry (ono is fatty and is difficult to dry out) and it came with steamed rice and an “asian stlye” medley of veggies with some kind of soy sauce based sauce. tasted like it came from applebees. and for $21 for a 6 oz piece of fish. it better be damn good. after tip i left paying $82. i was very very disappointed and will never come back here

Food is great. I go here with my family (it’s one of those take your family/date go somewhere a little more casual and inexpensive with your friends kind of place), and we all love it. Calamari is particularly awesome. I really enjoy the variety as they offer seafood, steak, and pasta. It is a bit pricey, around the $18-35 range depending on what you order of course, but location location location its right at the end of 4th, so you can enjoy a day/evening shopping, etc. Ambiance is fun, all fishing memorobilia and like… ships and giant swordfish on the walls.

berkeley seafood

The food at Spenger’s is good and all, but I think it can get a bit pricey. The place has a nice feel to it, with various ocean related doodads. They have a new menu each day, which probably means their fish actually is fresh like they say. I just don’t like how they have decided to scale up their prices and make things look a little nicer, trying to lure in the richer customers. I don’t think they can justify a price increase by making meals look a little nicer, and having a classier look. Maybe that is just me though. Then again, seafood is generally expensive, so maybe I am just getting picky. I still like the food though, so it manages to have four stars, though I am leaning towards three.

What I ate:

It was tender and came with mashed potatoes, which were good.
