5.0Ate this evening at the Athens. Free parking in their lot next to the building, but metered along 7th Ave. Greek-style atmosphere, with a menu that has something for everybody — at very affordable prices. Accepts cash & plastic. Sun. hrs., 8am to 3pm; Mon. to Thurs. & Sat., 7am to 7pm; Fri. hrs. 7am to 8pm.
Known for their Greek cuisine, especially lamb dishes, and I like their stuffed pork chop dinner as well. Strictly booth-style seating for about 75. Friendly, efficient service.
Located across the street from a seniors’ high-rise, which provides a number of the Athens’ clientel.
My favorite item at the Athens is their stuffed pork chop, one of their specials. Unfortunately that wasn’t on the special list this Monday, so I ordered the baked chicken breast dinner instead, with side orders of mashed potatoes and tossed salad.
Chilled salad came first, consisting of iceberg lettuce, red cabbage, bell pepper ring; shredded carrot, rings of white onion, tomato wedges and sliced cucumber. Italian dressing (their own – not bottled) was excellent. Served with potato roll.
Dinner arrived on one platter. Hot genuine (not instant) mashed potatoes; flavorful, tender, boneless, skinless chicken breast stuffed with delicious stuffing – just the right amount of celery, onion and sage. A serated knife was provided to carve the chicken breast, but the meat was so tender that a fork did the job.
Cost of the meal — including a 20+ % tip totalled under $10.00
