real italian food and cozy atmosphere
I always passed this Trattoria when passing through college. The line was usually pretty large and it always looked tasty, so I decided to try it one day. They have a fairly extensive menu, and all the dishes sounded very authentic. It can get kind of pricey, but for a nice atmosphere and real Italian food, they can get away with it. When I went, the service was pretty solid, though I can easily see it going downhill when more busy.
While the menu was large, I didn’t like how all the pastas generally did not come with any sort of meat. Maybe that’s not how they do it in Sicily, but if I’m shelling out the money, I want some meat. Because of that, I ordered an impanata (a steak that is breaded and grilled). It was an OK sized steak and had a good taste and texture to it, but I ended up eating a lot of bread (which was excellent) to make sure I was full.
Trattoria La Siciliana is good place for a date or a very nice family meal. If you are looking to get full and eat heartily though, then I suggest you go some place else. I personally like Venezia (which is also in Berkeley) a little bit more.

Bistecca Impanata
A grilled, breaded ribeye steak. It had a subtle crunch to it, and the meat was slightly chewy so you can get more out of it. Sometimes I wished there was a little bit more flavor and the dish was not the most filling. It came with a lemony spinach on the side and a couple of tomato slices, which were really good. It’s how veggies should be.

sicily's greatest
When you think Italian food has been overdone, come to Trattoria!
My friend and I discovered this while randomly driving down College Ave. I praise that day when the Gods smiled upon me.
Their food is very tasty. I find myself returning for the Bisteca (steak) and simple dishes like the Penne Giulietta. They do the the simple and complex very well. I once had the honor of having some lasagna (not on the menu) which was fabulous.
This place is family run and the owner’s are great. They are also sicilian. So don’t mess lest you find yourself sleeping with the fishes. Capisce? ;)
I would give them 5 stars but sometimes you can get european style service if they’re busy. And if you go on a busy night, be ready to wait. I recommend the cafe down the street.
