Hmm... Deep Dish

Zachary’s is delicious. The thick-crust is amazing, particularly the way they cook the tomatoes that go into the sauce. The thin-crust, however, should not be overlooked. It’s tasty and I like that they put the toppings under the cheese. I’ve never actually eaten at the restaurant – the pickup, full or half baked are always good options.

What I ate:

    Hands down classic.

  • ****

The Mushroom and Pineapple choice is a rare one made by a friend. I had some Mushroom & Jalapeno which was good, but very spicy. They put the jalapenos on top of the cheese and the mushrooms on the bottom, which was smart, since some people picked off the jalapenos, but no one complained about the mushrooms.

You have to try it

THE best pizza I have ever tasted. 2 thick slices fills me up…eventhough i keep wanting to eat more my little stomach can’t take it. My favorite is the spinach and mushroom but the others are great too. Crowded but definately worth the wait!

Deep dish pizza = lots of sauce

Everybody loves Zachary’s. Everybody RAVES about Zachary’s. Me being more of a thin-crust lover who doesn’t like too much tomato sauce… Zachary’s is just not my thing. I still give this place a 4 because I think it’s more of a matter of personal preference than a lack of quality in food. For people who like lots and lots of sauce and toppings, you’ll probably like Zachary’s. Lots of friends love the vegetarian pizza (again… not my thing).

I have one rave and one rant about their service. This place is ALWAYS crowded, and we all know that baking a pizza takes a while… so kudos to Zachary’s for taking your order at the same time they write your name on the waiting list. It seriously cuts down the wait time once you actually do get seated and moves the line along in general. However, my complaint is that the tables are soooo small and fairly packed together. And since this deep dish pizza pretty much requires a knife and fork, we need some elbow room… so the space was pretty cramped.

zach makes me fat

Commonly refered to as Zach’s, this place has the best Pizza in a 50 mile radius bar-none. (Disclaimer: I’m neither a food aficionado nor a pizza aficionado. I’m simply a man with a stomach and a mission.) I’ve never had pizza in Chicago, but they say this is Chicago style.

Whenever I have a slice of Zach’s special (which must be had in stuffed fashion), my body melts like soft-serve on a warm summer’s day. Eaten with a sugary drink, I can feel like my tongue and tonsils waltzing together in bliss.

ACHTUNG: if you go here on a busy night, be ready to wait! You can grab a couple drinks with your friends and hangout. Or you can buy half-baked (referring to the Pizza) and finish the baking at home (again , the Pizza).

It just doesn't get any better

They’re known for their spinach and mushroom pizza which normally aren’t the best toppings on pizza but somehow, someway, Zach’s makes it work!

I’ve been to Chicago and tried the “celebrated” Giordano’s deep dish and I must say that Zachary’s beats them hands-down every day and twice on Sundays! Plump roma tomato sauce flecked with herbs, delicious mozzarella layered beneath, crispy yet sturdy crust, Zachary’s does justice to the idea of deep dish pizza.

as good as promised

This place totally lives up to the hype. I’ve never had Chicago-style pizza, so I can’t compare on that front, but Zachary’s stuffed pizza is really good and extremely filling. We got a small for 2 people and were only able to finish half of the pizza!

It does get very busy, but you can order your pizza while you wait for a table. That way your food is ready soon after you sit down. Along with the signature stuffed pizzas, they also have thin pizzas, a few salads, beer (on tap and bottled), and wine.

What I ate:
  • ****

Straight-forward spinach with tomatoes, onions, and a few other things. It was nice and fresh and had a good dressing.

  • ****

We got a stuffed pizza with artichokes, cherry tomatoes, and pesto. It tasted great and I liked the crunchy crust (which you can’t usually get on a thin pizza).
