Long wait but good food. We had the deep dish with pepperoni and garlic. The sauce was just right, but I was expecting more cheese. The crust was a bit too dry as well but I guess that can’t be helped. :) It really was good though. My husband and I couldn’t finish a small.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say it’s the best pizza on the planet. You can try to argue… people have tried to argue before, but then I take them to Zachary’s and show them that I am right, and they agree. Hundreds of awards can’t be wrong. Neither can the lines out the door.
chi-town in the bay!
On a cross country drive to sunny California, one of the stops was Chicago for some real deep dish pizza. Yum yum yummy!
Fast forward a few months later, craving some Chicago-style pizza, a friend recommended trying Zachary’s for some deep dish action. Having tasted the pizza, I think this might have been even better than when I had it in Chicago! Tasty crust, delish sauce, gooey cheese, and excellent toppings coming together to create a pizza experience best enjoyed with a knife and fork. Can’t wait to go back, although my waist might not forgive me for it…

Plan your weekend around it
I’ve had Chicago pizza in Chicago. Zachary’s is better than that. Zachary’s might be the best pizza in the USA. I’m not the only person who thinks so. The sauce is wonderfully tomato-ey. Some people don’t like tomato sauce. Some people think that crust is more important than sauce. These people usually think that Zachary’s is merely “good” instead of “transcendentally wonderful”. But it really is wonderful.

love the pizza here
i live in chicago and after sampling the pizza out here (gino’s, giordano’s, uno’s), honestly, i can’t tell the difference b/t zachary’s & chicago pizza out here. don’t get me wrong, each pizza joint has its own style/flavor, but zachary’s is a tasty take of chicago-style pizza. i agree w/the previous posts also about ordering take-out…the wait times can be ridiculously long if you dine in (i.e. hours).
A great version of chicago deep dish style pizza
Having tried chicago style pizza in chicago, I still prefer zachary’s pizzas. I did like chicago’s pizza for it’s crispy, flaky crust and layered toppings, but I love Zachary’s liberal use of tomato sauce. A combination of chicago style crust and toppings with Zachary’s tomato sauce would make a complete pizza.
Not worth the hype
I know everybody likes Zachary’s, but it really isn’t much compared to real Chicago Pizza. Either that, or maybe I haven’t had it when it’s good. The last few times I went there, the crust became soggy and did not stand up to the amount of tomato sauce and toppings used.
Best pizza in the Bay Area
I know it’s in Berkeley, but this is the best Chicago style pizza, even compared to Chicago landmarks such as Gino’s.
The stuffed pizzas are the main attraction – chunky tomatoes on top, a blend of crust and cheese next, then toppings, all on a flaky, buttery crust. It is the perfect pizza.
The thin pizzas are good, especially for kids who might not enjoy the stuffed pizzas.
The space is nothing special and it can be hard to get a table during busy times. They don’t take reservations.
My recommendation – get it as take out. During busy times it can be hard to get your order in (busy signal). It is incredibly hard to drive home with a pizza in the car – the smell alone is amazing and you have to exercise self restraint!
If you’re not going to eat the pizza right away or you are going to want it during a busy time (weekends), order it early and order it half-baked. Take it home and pop it in the oven for 15 minutes when you’re ready to eat.
