Great view, decent food
I came here to try out their 25-for-25 promotion menu, and on the whole I was satisfied but not awed. We were seated at a table that took advantage of Ponti’s great location at the southern end of the Fremont Bridge, and during the meal we got to watch bridge open and close as ships passed.
The decor was clean and elegant, and service was as good as one would expect from an upscale restaurant. Ponti’s is a nice place for a romantic dinner or special occasion, but in the restaurant’s haste to make it so, it seemed like the lights had lives of their own, darkening in melodramatic steps as the evening went on. Given the choice between Ponti and another 25-for-25 spot, I’d probably choose the latter, just because the food here wasn’t memorable enough for me.
-
Braised Pork Shank
Too salty for my tastes, but quite tender.
-
Red & Yellow Beet Risotto
Rich and creamy.
-
Smoked Gravlax Timbale
Very tasty salmon and cheese.
-
Smoked Westcott Bay Mussels
There were 6 of them, but the dish was relatively tasteless.
-
Pear Galette
Great combination of flaky pastry and rich ice cream.
-
Rhubarb Three Ways
Not quite what I was expecting. One of the three ways was really good, the other two were mediocre.
