This is definitely a great place. In the evenings, from like 7-11pm, they have live tabla and sitar playing. Great food, both North and South Indian, I think (it’s got the North Indian classics, plus South Indian dosas, uttapam, etc. that can be harder to find) and the staff is really friendly and nice.
It’s also completely true about birthdays here! If you let it slip that it’s someone’s birthday… out come the sparklers and strobe lights and loud birthday song. It’s hilarious and fun.

Don’t mind the low clearance. This place has got top notch hospitality, live music, generous portions, and reasonable prices. Go with a group and order from each animal in the food chain. Pair it with a Taj Mahal beer, and save your rip roaring eructations for the walk out.
Say it’s your birthday, and the seemingly average Indian restaurant atmosphere will turn into a strobe light flashing disco for 2 minutes.
