Glimmer of Hope

This establishment known as, BaRuni’s Grille is a vast improvement over the old Beyersdale Hotel, which was in it’s lifespan just a dive. The vision and execution of this remodel is amazing. The dinning, drinking, and dancing rooms look warm and inviting. I have visited three times and each time it has been busy and still appeared clean. They have seating on a patio as well. In the very local area of slim dinning choices. BaRuni’s menu is a certain improvement on the local-yokel fried, frozen fish patty most area havens dish-up. They run some specials on beer and appetizers for happy hour and have a DJ or band on some weekend evenings. The waitstaff are polite and service is fairly attentive. Take-out menu available. We found it unbearably loud during football games, not so much the crowd, but, the TV"s volume was way to high. We were not able to have a conversation across our table during dinner. They have a boastable micro-brew beer list, the mixed drinks are a good quality. I’m still waiting for them to get espresso-flavored vodka… :) We’ve tried a few dishes and will review them below.

Dishes I tried:

I believe this must have been on a special. We haven’t found it on the regular menu since the 1st time we had it. This was an excellent sandwich. Cooked to perfection, lightly seasoned, tender-mild fish. Portion was plenty and the piece filled the bun, which was also fresh tasty bread with a bit of body. Satisfying sandwich!

Everything about my salad was right-on. The chicken portion was savory and crisp, not greasy. All The produce was crisp with good flavor, Although the greens were mostly iceberg lettuce, it was fresh-looking and crisp. All in all, it was way too much salad for me. Probably about 1/3 of the amount of lettuce would have been enough for me.

I’m told by my partner that it’s very similar to the original. We both had one, mine of course loaded with all the slop (grilled onions, hot peppers, mushrooms and lettuce) and his, naked…just steak and cheese. The sandwich is delicious and came served on about a 6-8 inch
’ semi-hard roll. Again, good quality sandwich bread. Plenty of sandwich here to stuff yer gut. I took part of mine home.

I assumed the grilled steak with peppers, oinions, on the menu description meant that the vegetation was grilled as well. Wrong, I think… The wrap was hot and fresh tasting but the veggies in it seemed to me like the exact stuff you get from a jar of chunky salsa. The meat portion was fine, it was tender and nicely seasoned. The serving was plenty for me. If you have more than a small appetite, you may wish to reconsider the dish. This came with a side of garlic mashed potatoes the size of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The menu does plainly say; Garlic SmashedRed Potatoes. My mistake for assuming they would be roasted garlic spuds. No hints of the nutty, mild, sweet flavor of roasted garlic..Duh, I wonder why? The minced and possibly slightly sauteed (but you’d have to prove it to me) garlic is just too intense a flavor for mashed potatoes. These spuds were otherwise lifeless. I assaulted them (pun intended) with my salt shaker with not much improvement. I requested a pat of butter and was brought a small bowl with very yellow warm liquid that didn’t taste like butter. I actually tried to add a teaspoonfull of this lily-livered puddle into my potatoes without any improvement. I finished the wrap and made a small dent in the enormous serving of Garlic Smashed Red Potatoes. I wouldn’t order this again, didn’t care for it much.
