Favorite Restaurant!

I took off one star only because of shop decor and friendly flies, the food is very good and IMO excellent for the prices. The service has always been friendly, especially considering the amount of traffice they get.

More on the shop, it’s tiny and shares space with a fish market/counter, there are a few tiny chairs and tables and I’ve seen strips of (occupied) fly strips hanging from the ceiling so it’s REALLY no frills but the food area and counters are clean. I have never seen flies buzzing around the work area or landing on the food, etc. tho. There also isn’t a rank fishy smell or mildew that you’d sometimes find in some “hole in the wall” restaurants.

The sushi is excellent with a very wide variety, more than you can find in surrounding neighborhood restaurants. Prices are very good to excellent for the variety in their menu as well as the quality. The fish has always been very fresh and you can taste the sweetness, the rice is light/medium seasoned (you can taste the tang of the vinegar but it’s not overpowering). Their spicy rolls and marinates are mild (I’m not a fan of spicy foods so YMMV), they don’t burn a whole in your tongue but they do give you a little kick.

They have a high turnover, mostly takeout, but they do churn out orders at a very impressive speed (usually 10 to 15 minutes during lunch on a normal day, 20ish minutes during a busy day) with very few mistakes. I’ve been a customer for almost a decade and have only had two or three orders with mistakes. I think most of that was just because the person taking my order didn’t speak English as their primary language and staticky cell phones. They DO always repeat the order back to you though, so if you pay attention you’ll be able to catch any mistakes.

..and I don’t mean to sound snarky? But it’s quite novel to go to a Japanese restaurant and be served by Japanese people and hear Cantonese or Korean in the background ;)

Super fresh fish at great prices (= best for take-out because of tiny dining space and lack of ambience). The rolls are only ok… go for the pokie sashimi (hamachi & albacore tuna are the best) and the chirashi bowl.

Fish market = super fresh sushi. Probably some of the best in town. It doesn’t look like much, but they make up for it in great fresh food. Order to go if you don’t like sitting in a fish market while eating your sushi.

sushi on the go!

I’ve been going here for years. The prices are great and the sushi is fresh. It love ordering the california rolls, mango hamachi rolls and sashimi sets. I never ate there. I’d usually call in the order and pick it up 15 minutes later.

I wouldn’t go here on a date. It’s a great place to pick up some sushi.
