We stopped in on a rather busy night and the staff still managed to maintain PERFECT service. Durham is renown for so-so standards of service, but Blu is definitely an oasis in this desert. Our food was cooked perfectly and the ambience is so cool and soothing. There has been a dearth of good seafood here in the Triangle, and Blu definitely steps up to the plate and hits a homer out of the park.

I had the oyster po’ boy with home-made chips. It was a generous portion of plump, perfectly fried oysters. It was quiet and a perfect location for a business meeting. Blu has a beautiful patio that I will surely come back to enjoy on a warm summer night.

After eating at Blu seafood several times with generally promising meals (especially the whole fish entrees) it was already clear service was so so and the food was slow to arrive – but nothiing prepared my party for the latest encounter. We went on “crab night " arriving at 6:25. We were not however, told any of the crab specials until we specifically asked. We were told, however, they were already out of some crab dishes. We ordered appetizers and entrees. After 55 minutes we remained without any food, not even soup or salads, while tables that arrived well after us were well into their meals. We inquired and were told things were slow and other tables had also complained. Still no food arrived. We decided to cut our losses and leave. Upon leaving the owner Eryk chased us out the door, not out of concern that repeat diners were so upset as to leave, but rather announcing we were stealing from him and that he was calling the police. We waited outside for him to follow through, and of course, he came back and told us he was too busy and we needed to " get out”. I waited tables through college and have dined all over this country and many other countries both developed and undeveloped and have never encountered anything so pathetic. The food may have promise but they dont seem to recognize that service is a critical component to a dining experience. Its disappointing to say but I’d stay away for now.
