Best Burgers in the Metro

Bogart’s is a hidden gem of a restaurant. From the outside of its Triangle City location, just down 12th Street from Zesto’s, Bogart’s appears to be a shabby and slightly seedy local bar, promising nothing more than frozen, bagged fryer-fare. And it is, in fact, a shabby, slightly seedy local bar, however—

Stop in of a lunchtime and crack open the menu. I think you might be surprised. You’ll find a wide variety of dishes, from the expected sandwiches and fried apps to pasta and home made soups. They have specials that change daily, and most things seem to be prepared on premises.

The only thing I’ve been disappointed by has been the french fries. They’re fresh cut, which I usually love, but they just don’t seem to hold up to the quality of the rest of the menu. Do yourself a favor and order some onion rings or raw fries when it comes time to “choose sides” (rimshot).

And speaking of doing yourself a favor, here’s a big one—order a burger. I can’t say I’ve tried them all, but I have tried many; and in my opinion, Bogart’s has the best burgers currently on offer in the Metro area.

Dishes I tried:

$7 for a large (8, 9 oz.?) patty and .50 for each topping.

You can choose from the usual—grilled onions, mushrooms, bacon—or go with something slightly exotic like ham, jalapeños or a Columbia favorite, home made pimento cheese (which is excellent).

It comes on a kaiser roll, and when you get it all the way, it is loaded down with all the usual suspects, including tomatoes, onions, pickles, green leaf lettuce, and a healthy dose of mayo and mustard.

You can’t go wrong with a burger from Bogart’s. Unless, that is, you don’t come prepared with a big enough appetite.

Great food, friendly service

My dad brought me to Bogarts the first time probably 7 years ago. The Black Marauder is the best steak-tip sandwich and the fries are fresh cut and rival the fries at the State Fair. Great home-cooked meals fried porkchops,…
