Modern mexican in Lincoln Park
Pretty ‘upscale’ for a mexican restaurant. It was snuggled in an intersection in lincoln park. The music ranged from classical, to portishead, to 80’s music I think. Interesting, very interesting.. Definitely worth trying with a date or a friend for a quick dinner. I don’t know if I’d come back many times, but a date could end up being successful there as it is very intimate.

3 combination tacos (soft shell)
The beef (steak) taco was very average if not poor. The shrimp taco was a solid 4/5. The chicken taco was pretty good but nothing spectacular.

Modern = small?
Their tagline is Modern. Mexican. but it seemed like that was just an excuse to serve small dishes that look fancy. The decor is nice and modern for sure and the restaurant is small and intimate, but it was odd that they had oldies playing (like Sinatra) in a Mexican restaurant. Service wasn’t that great either. Our food took quite a while to come out, which made the small portions even more disappointing.
On the bright side, the chips were good :)
-
pork tenderloin
The meat itself was quite good and tender but there wasn’t much flavor overall. The spinach it came with didn’t help much.
-
margarita brioso
It’s a margarita and it made me feel a little buzzy, so that’s good I guess.
-
corona
Corona served in a glass – now that’s modern! I guess the 4.25 went somewhere.
-
nachos of the day
These were the best part of the meal. When we went, it was chicken nachos and they were good. They do a good job of making sure most of the chips have some cheese or chicken on it.

minimalistic mexican
brioso is a small, modern mexican restaurant that i recently dined at w/some friends. sadly, i can’t say i was too thrilled w/my overall experience here.
although i enjoyed my dishes very much, i don’t think the same can be said for my friends and their dishes. more on the minimalistic side, the dishes offer portions that are easily finished in a sitting with nominal flavoring. the service is also on the slower side – i feel like we waited an eternity before our dishes arrived.
i don’t think i’ll be returning here – i prefer my mom & pop hole in the wall $5 mexican food.
-
duck breast
i love duck! i give this 4 stars just for the tender duck slices. the dish comes with a white cream sauce and a dollop of stir-fried green stuff (spinach?).
-
nachos of the day
quite delicious. the chips taste fresh & crunchy, and the topping combo is surprisingly yum.
