A Hidden Jewel in heart of Downtown Fullerton

Brownstone Cafe is a hidden jewel in heart of downtown Fullerton. It’s tucked away in a small Spanish courtyard with a small fountain in the middle, an open skyline that lets in a warm ray of sunlight on Sunday mornings. It’s the place you want to be caught reading a book, conversing with friends, or simply enjoying the sunlight.

The best time to go would be between 9am and 12noon. It’s not too crowded, away from the busy city life, and offer excellent breakfast/lunch menu.

My friends rave about Brownstone’s fluffy scrambled eggs. FLUFFY. I tried their Mediterranean Omelet and I was not disappointed. If you want to try an omelet, get either spinach & mushroom or mediterranean (spinach, tomatoes, red onions, black olives, feta cheese, mozzarella cheese)

I was a little disappointed with their pancakes. I tried the peach pancakes and found 3 medium sized pancakes with canned peaches on top. Nothing special about the pancakes.

The service was excellent. You’ll never find yourself with an empty cup of coffee. I’ll recommend brownstone cafe to my friends in a heartbeat.

Also try other Downtown Fullerton venues such as Spadra (on commonwealth) and Roman Cucina (right next to Brownstone for dinner). There are a lot of other “random” cafes in Downtown Fullerton that has live performances as well. (steamers= jazz, rocking taco=dueling piano competition, internet bar=new bands)

Dishes I tried:

nice cafe, so-so food

i came to brownstone cafe for what i was hoping to be breakfast, but i was sadly turned down as only lunch was being served at noon. the cafe is mostly ‘brown’ as its namesake, and the ambience is very casual, laid-back with both indoor and outdoor patio seating. maybe a little too laidback, as our server seemed to be a little too not all there.

i’d have to say that the lunch food was hit/miss (nothing spectacular), but the outdoor patio might be enough to get me to come back for breakfast another day. i’ve heard breakfast is good, and as the previous reviewer stated, it is hidden in a cute spanish courtyard.

Dishes I tried:

3.5 stars. how can you go wrong with pastrami? plenty of sandwich meat between 2 slices of toasted rye. hits the spot. comes w/a “side” of green salad. but it almost looked like i ordered a full salad + full sandwich.

Apple & Walnut Salad

Another surprising Fullerton gem. Mainly...

Another surprising Fullerton gem. Mainly soups/salads/sandwiches for lunch. (I have not tried their breakfast menu which has been highly touted by those who know). Their famous tomato-basil soup really must be tried if you’re a first timer. It’s creamy with the amount of spice. I’m not a tomato soup guy (not even a soup guy), but I keep coming back for this dish. Other winners are the Grilled Chicken sandwich, the Cobb Salad Wrap, and Matt’s Special (an apple/avocado/brie offering on squaw). Good stuff.

FYI, They’re not open for dinner.
