From the Restaurant
From the team who brought you Rare, voted Best New Restaurant of 2006 by the Vancouver Sun, comes the next evolution of modern Canadian dining: Metro. Located at the point where the Pacific Ocean, Coal Harbour and historic Gastown converge, at 200 Burrard Street, Metro is a beautiful new dining room that offers Vancouver diners innovative Metropolitan Canadian cuisine, using seasonal and sustainable ingredients. If you’re wondering how to define “Metropolitan Canadian Cuisine,” Metro’s Tim Keller explains, “Metropolitan Canadian cuisine really combines classic techniques with the influences of Canada’s multicultural society and the bounty of our region’s farm, fields, forests and oceans presented in a contemporary style.

I visited on a Sunday evening, liked what I saw with the interiors and felt a bit worried (for the owners’ sake) about lack of patrons. It is a tricky location for evenings and gawd knows how many millions need to be recouped for this venture.
Metro tries to stand out from the crowd with its “order by the ounze” menu, which is good for dinners hoping to sample but very difficult for the kitchen. Sure enough when my trio of grilled fish arrived much of it was cold, though there was little evidence that it would’ve been much better when hot.
With so many other solid contenders to choose from I’m not encouraged to visit Metro again.

I think Metro is not bad for the price and it has very nice and modern design. Food was a bit too salty to my liking but my friend found it just right. Most of the meat and seafood can be ordered by the oz. So I can order a small portion and leave room for dessert! The restaurant has a partial view of the harbour (right next to the site of the new convention centre). Service was really good and they let us (two girls) to share one glass of red. We had: a 4oz Fraser Valley Duck Breast and a 6oz Sablefish. We had the Pistachio Dacquoise with buttermilk ice-cream and Chocolate ‘Moose’ Torte as desserts.
