Gastronomy in a Diner
It’s a diner with Northwest attention to quality and freshness. I got a touch of Southern hospitality, too. If you’ve been to a classic NY diner – run by Greek/Middle Eastern immigrants (No Coke – Pepsi), you’re familiar with the wide-ranging menu and breakfast all day. Here, you can believe that not only is everything ready and at your table quickly, it’s probably going to be premium quality and fresh.
I know there are a bunch of people for whom this is a breakfast/brunch destination. I’ve been once for breakfast and once for lunch. I’d go more frequently, except that I don’t live or work nearby.
Dishes I tried:
Lunch Special - Salmon Cakes
The cakes were good. The broccolli was perfect. I definitely enjoyed the potatoes. For this price – unbeatable!

Brings back memories...
Okay, so I haven’t eaten at C J’s for almost ten years – not since I moved from Seattle back to Florida. But while I lived downtown, I used to eat at C J’s regularly and they were always wonderful and a great value. My best friend lived in the apartments just above C J’s, and there were always wonderful smells wafting throughout her building. We usually ate dinner there at least 1-3 nights a week. They always had several specials, the prices were quite modest and the service was always great. C J’s always reminded me of Tom’s Restaurant from Seinfeld. :-) Oh, and yes, they are usually always crowded on the weekends (especially on Sunday) with all the folks who are there for brunch. But on the weeknights it was hardly ever crowded; sometimes, we were the only ones there! That’s probably why they’re not open for dinner any more. :-( That’s a shame, because their dinners were awesome – very authentic diner fare: meatloaf, spaghetti, salisbury steak, pot roast, etc. But even with only breakfast and lunch service, I think C J’s is one of Seattle’s best-kept dining secrets.

I tried it for the first time this weekend. It’s a nice breakfast place. Nice variety in the menu. I got a greek omelet and was happy with it. The toast did come a bit burned though. Service was nice. Overall, it’s a nice place to take friends to have breakfast. They serve breakfast all day.
