Fantastico!
I hope that’s how you say fantastic in Italian… I’m probably showing my ignorance here, but who cares. This place is truly fantastic! I brought my mom here last November for her birthday dinner. We had just seen Menopause the Musical (I totally recommend seeing this for both young and old, it’s a total blast!) and boy were we starving.
First thing’s first, there’s not a whole lot of room in the dining room because all the tables are pretty close together and it was packed with people. I just took that as a good sign. :) Don’t worry, there’s enough room for the wait staff to move around and you’re not likely to get spilled on.
Mom and I had a four course meal that was probably the best experience I’ve ever had with italian food. Remember, this isn’t your local Olive Garden. This is the real deal here, folks! I can’t remember what my mom had as her entrée, I think it might have been a special. But I’ve done my best to list what we ate below. The only reason I don’t include desert is because it’s not on the online menu and I can’t remember! lol
Bottom line, if you’re in Seattle and you need a place for a romantic date, special occasion, or satisfying your craving for authentic italian cuisine and you can spare the cash (our dinner for the two of us after tax and tip was a little more than 100 but it could easily have been more) than this is the place to go!
Check out the website. It’s got interesting tidbits from the owner, including how this place was inspired by a vivid dream he’d had 20 years prior to opening the restaurant.
-
Gamberoni
“Grilled prawns with goat cheese, lemon, and mint.” These have to be the best prawns I have had in my entire life and I love shrimp. This appetizer was probably the best dish we had all night!
-
Insalata Mista
Your typical house salad at an italian restaurant. I would say there was a trifle too much dressing, but that’s a personal taste thing.
-
Spinachi
This was the salad that my mom had. She absolutely loved it!! “Sautéed spinach, onion, lemon, pine nuts.”
-
Vitello Saltimbocca
“Sautéed veal, prosciutto, sage in a white wine and butter sauce.” The veal with prosciutto was very very good. The only thing that disappointed me about this dish was the very small amount of potatoes and peppers that went with it as a side. No, that’s not just the typical American preference for big portions talking. There really was a very small amount. They could easily have doubled it and that would have been perfect.
