Wonderfully traditional
I haven’t been to Gennaro’s since 1999 when I lived near Chicago, but my experiences there were all incredibly good. The food was delicious, hearty and homemade … just like at my Italian grandma’s house! By far, the most tempting, irresistable and memory-inducing fare was the side dish of fried green peppers – impossible to find on most any Italian restaurant menu but a common staple of southern Italian homes.
Prices and service were very good. Friendliness was exceptional. Ambiance … well, some places you just go to for the other amenities!
I miss the peppers at Gennaro’s on nearly a monthly basis! My next trip to Chicago will definitely include a side trip to Gennaro’s!

fried peppers
Phenomenal side for pepper lovers! Don’t skip it! Fried in olive oil until nearly browned, liberally dusted with salt, these peppers are bursting with flavor and an excellent complement to all pasta dishes. The oil that remains on the plate is so good you’ll need extra bread to soak it up!
