Traditional meets Modern Japanese Cuisine.

The ambiance at Kitayama is out of this world. I have been going to there since I was quite young and try to frequent the sushi bar at least once a month. They have continually upgraded the restaurant, now with plush seating in the bar and plasma tv’s. Victor, a bartender, makes the best cocktails. The waitresses even wear traditional Kimono’s to this day. On the expensive side, but well worth the price.

What I ate:
  • *****

Interactive dining experience. “Shabu Shabu” translates to “quickly, quickly”, the way you cook the raw slices of beef in the broth, as they cook well… quickly. This dish is accompanied by multiple types of vegetable, sprouts, cabbage, mushrooms, tofu and noodles.

  • *****

Extremely unique take on ceviche. Assorted raw fish in a spicy sauce, served chilled with jicima chips.

Extras:
I came here for

Not cheap but the quality of the food isn't questionable.

Kitayama

You know how theres quantity vs quality, this is quality, and it is expensive. One of only a couple sushi restaurants in southern california that rival enoshima. This is also the best traditional japanese food around, but once again very price. You can sit in a traditional tatami floor and have a private room if you’d like. authentic ambiance and refreshing change of pace, good for very special occasions.
What I ate:
  • *****

a pot of thinly sliced beef in a sweet soup base.

  • *****

Two fresh pieces of fatty tuna, a treat to say the least.
