Great for dinner. Without mamosas, brunch is just OK

This funky and fabulous fairy hang out is full of novel variations on American favorites, trendy Castroites, and all the left over props from the milk bar scene in clockwork orange.

The food is great for dinner, but I suspect many people who say the brunch is worth the wait are still a little tipsy from $8 unlimited mimosas (which if that’s a draw, then go for it. but not being a fan I didn’t find the rest of the brunch worth waiting 45 minutes).

Their famous white cheddar grilled cheese ($6) may not be out of this world, but it is still very tasty. Buttery and crisp white bread with cheddar that beats most grilled cheese cheeses. The fish tacos ($8) were another great option. Like the grilled cheese, its not unique enough to lavish with adjectives, but its much better than most. I really liked the ricotta gnocchi ($7) with its great mix of shitake, thyme, and parmesan.

The brunch options are good and similar to lots of American diner options, but without the mimosas, I don’t think I’d generally wait for their pancakes or french toast.
