From the Restaurant

Peru's cuisine is probably the best kept food secret in South America. A bounty of Pacific seafood, a fiendish enthusiasm for chilies and a confluence of Latino, Native American and even Japanese and Chinese influences make for a remarkable virtuosity" ... Food & Wine Magazine. San Francisco Gorgeous appetizers set the tone for meat-centric, down-home, but nuanced entrees. Try the Empanada Don Walter made with tender chunks of beef, eggs and raisins in a blistery-crunchy crust with whole perfectly-steamed shrimp in a romesco sauce. The Lomo Saltado has lean slices of beef, onions and tomatoes, expertly seasoned and served aside a mound of fluffy rice to soak up the savory juices. There is an exceptionally hearty pork chop on an earthy bed of mushrooms, cabbage, bacon and chopped potatoes. Desserts include a truly-sublime fruit ice cream, flown in from Peru. Chosen by Michael Bauer as one of the five rising-star chefs of San Francisco, Martin Castillo has defined Limon's menu.

My husband and I ate here recently. The only reservation we could get was at 6:30pm, but that was fine, because we could actually hear ourselves talk (the restaurant is very loud). The food was great. We had the Vieres con Foie Gras, which, despite its political incorrectness, was superb. We also split ceviche and the red snapper. The latter was good, but I would probably try something else next time. Service was very attentive. Our waiter recommended a very nice red wine. I’d definitely go back.

I’ve heard a lot about this restaurant for a long time and given the fact that I could only reserve a spot for 10pm on weekend speaks to its popularity. Overall, I thought the food was solid, but didn’t anything was particularly memorable. I had the Vieres con Foie Gras (Pan seared scallops with foie gras) and split the Lomo Saltado (Top Sirloin slices sauteed with veggies and fries). Enjoyed the fries =P
