Finally, Real italian Food

I went for my first time to Amici Miei a month ago after a friend of mine recommended it. I’ve been back a couple of times since. I have to say we were very pleased. They have pretty good service. Each time we had a new server who kept it pretty professional, but also nice and outgoing. There is a huge selection on the menu, anything from anti-pastas, baked dishes, some very interesting pastas, fish, and some excellent choices of meat. The best appetizers in my opinion are the fried mozzarella and calamari. not overbearing portions but not too little either. By the time you finish the bread, salad, appetizer, and main course. there is absolutely no room for desert. I have still yet to try the fresh baked chocolate flan that looked spectacular on another table as we saw the chocolate just pour right out. So far i have tried the shrimp and broccoli rabe pasta, the roasted chicken, and the rack of lamb. The pasta had just the right flavor and the shrimp were definitely jumbo. Despite the other reviews on the chicken, mine was cooked perfect. It was loaded with flavor and was really an excellent dish to get If you want a good chicken, this is the place to go. The only thing they could improve on is the portion of garlic roasted potatoes, just couldn’t get enough of them. My favorite dish is the rack of lamb, cooked the way i like it, med. I have to say, i’ve never had lamb this good. My husband had already made his mind up that’s what he’s having next time we get a chance to stop in. overall, the place is done up beautifully, especially since Hugo’s. Good service, even better food. No spaghetti and meatballs but an excellent opportunity to expand your horizon and try some REAL authentic italian food. It’s about time we got a true italian restaurant in the area, and not another horrible pizzeria. A+++ in my book!.

Yummy!!

My husband and I are big fans of the restaurant. The salads are worth skipping, but the pasta dishes are delicious. The fried calamari appetizer is awesome, whole pieces of calamari instead of small cut up rings. The maranara is a chunky tomato. I highly suggest this if you are looking for a nice pasta dish.

Delicious italian

After reading a horrible review of Amici Miei, my mom and I decided to give it a try. We went in around 7pm on a Monday (slow night no doubt) to find the parking lot 3/4 full. We could see lots of people in the dining room, but we ordered takeout and waited in the bar over a glass of wine. The bar area was quiet and the ambiance was lacking, but we did not enter the dining room which seemed to havve a lot more people. We waited about 20 mins for our food (eggplant parm, lasagna, and bruchetta) and had a very good glass of cabernet sauvingnon. I have to say that the eggplant was absolutely decious. Not breaded and fried the way many restaurants do it, but perfectly cooked and seasoned with just enough cheese. The lasagna was also very good. The bruchetta had some mushrooms and sausage on it, but the bread and tomatoes were excellent by my standards. The portions were healthy, not too big the way so many restaurants do it these days but just right for someone who does not want to gain a lot of weight when eating out. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants real italian cuisine. We plan on going back and dining in the next time.

What I ate:

NOT breaded and greasy but perfectly cooked in the traditional italian way.

Disappointing At Best

The old “Hugo’s Inn”, recently renovated and under new ownership, now goes by the name of “Amici Miei”. While it is nicely decorated with an italian flare, the food was disappointing at best and left much to be desired both in portion sizes and taste. They call it authentic italian cuisine. I wondered if that was code for making everything as cheaply and meager in size as possible. To start the salads served with the meals consisted of nothing but iceburg lettuce and two cherry tomatoes. No choice of dressings other than balsamic & oil (which incidentally, goes terribly with iceburg lettuce). The crusty bread was good but so hard you could have broken a tooth and it was served only with olive oil, no butter to be seen. All four of our entree’s left much to be desired. The penne pasta in cream sauce with mushrooms and ham had no flavor. The ham pieces were few and far between and so fatty my elderly aunt had to “dispose” of them in her napkin as gracefully as possible. The rosemary chicken & red potatoes consisted of a half chicken on the bone with a small pool of blood on the platter, fatty undercooked skin and a few sprigs of rosemary on the top. Oh and I can’t forget the four tiny potatoe wedges (probably the equivalent of a half a spud). When we complained about the undercooked chicken on the bone, she said she would see what she could do and never once mentioned it again and no credits were on the bill. The 8 oz filet I asked to be cooked medium, was well done and chewy. Even the mouse sized portion of mini asparagus on the plate was stringy. The only good thing about the meal was the minestrone soup with lobster. It was very tasty but more of a bisque really as it was thick with no actual vegetables, beans, pasta or any of the other things that would qualify it as minestrone. The total bill came to $90. No coffee, no deserts, two appetizers and four entrees. Save your money and go to Giordano’s for a better italian meal. You will spend the same or less and be satisfied when you leave.

What I ate:
  • *

undercooked and served on the bone with fatty skin attached

  • *

no taste and ham bits tiny and terribly chewy
