Went here for breakfast on July 4th. There were tons of people waiting around outside, but we only waited 5 minutes for a table; I guess they have rapid table turnover. The space is also nice, in a house.

I had the special, eggs benedict with crab. Good, and good ingredients, but both the crab and the hollandaise sauce were oddly bland. The omelette was apparently the same way.

I would go again, but order differently. We enjoyed our breakfast, but other items on the menu looked better.

a busy little cottage

The first thing I noticed about the Cottage was that it was very busy. Many people were lounging around outside. Me and my family weren’t sure whether to eat here or not, but we ended up waiting. Even though there were a lot of people, the wait actually didn’t take that long.

The Cottage is cool because, well, it is a house turned into a restaurant. You can eat outside or inside and it has large windows for people eating inside. As for the food, they offer a tasty sounding selection of food. I got an omelette, which was good, especially the bites with brie, but it didn’t impress me. I had some stuffed french toast though, and I thought it was excellent and comes with three huge slices. I would definitely come here again because they have good brunch.

What I ate:

It was a solid omelette. The egg was fluffy and the insides were pretty good, but it wasn’t impressive. It was hard to eat the egg and the filling together since the egg is just put on top of the stuff. I liked the brie a lot though.

  • ****

Comes with three huge pieces of french toast. Tasted great, especially with the filling.

A good sandwich to get here. Has crab with cheese melted on top. It also has stuff to fill the sandwich with such as avocado. Quality.

cute place for brunch on a nice day!

in general, i’m a huge fan of brunch places, but this one, situated on a lovely corner in la jolla stands out with good ambience, friendly service, and of course, good food (some interesting twists on classic brunch fare).

What I ate:
  • ****

french toast stuffed with strawberries and marscapone chese. yummy! (but probably TOO much for one person unless you have a big sweet tooth)

  • *****

this is one of their signature items (even available for sale from their website!). you can have it with your choice of milk or yogurt and with plenty of fresh fruit. my sister ordered this dish and described it as fresh, flavorful and crunchy.

  • ****

a twist on classic eggs benedict (replacing the ham with a shrimp cake). it was a daily special, so not sure how often it is available.

  • ***

this salad had shrimp, papaya, avocado, jicama, coconut, peppers… my mom thought that the lime-mango dressing was a bit on the vinegar-y side (but she did ask for an extra portion so…)
