when you wear yourself out in the produce section
don’t kid yourself: it may be a cafe, but you pay restaurant prices. $6.50 for a grilled cheese? $8.50 for a panini? I know, I couldn’t resist it, and you shouldn’t even try. if you’re going to cough up that kind of money, leave the cafe setting behind and get it to go.
if you need to justify those prices to yourself or others, know you get 1.5 hours of free parking. yay!

Harvest Vegetarian
Happily, when they say there’s avacado on it, they really mean it: I found a perfectly ripe avacado without looking too hard. The hummus (and I do know hummus) is fine, but not outstanding. And the bread? Just plain rocks.

Great place for a quick and good meal
The cafe is nestled in the back of the Fox & Obel market. At first when I heard about it and walked into the market I thought I was just supposed to buy the prepared food in the market (which looked awesome), but I was pleased to find that there was an actual cafe.
They serve all kinds of food from full entrees (like pasta and I think steak) to sandwiches and salads. They even have beer and wine. I haven’t had anything that was horrible and plenty of things that have been great.
You order up front and then they give you a number for your table for them to bring your food out. Normally it’s easy to find a table, but I have seen some table wait time during peak. There tend to be local residents studying or working at the tables so they can clog up the available seating.
Next time you’re near Navy Pier or the AMC movie theater and need a good bite to eat check it out. You can also buy a nice dessert to sneak into the theaters :)

Roast Beef & Blue Brie
i love roast beef sandwiches, and this sandwich was especially tasty w/the blue brie. my only complaint is the bread roll, which was tough-crispy on the outside, making it slightly painful to eat. overall, though, i’d eat this sandwich again.
-
Cobb
i like my salads dark green, and this salad was more light/white.
-
White Chocolate Dried Cherry Cookie
delicious! sugary-buttery-sweetness w/tart dried cherries.

lobster sandwich anyone?
hidden in the back of the fox & obel market, this nice cafe serves upscale, high-end salads & sandwiches (lobster sandwiches?!!?) in a clean, posh typical cafe setting.
the prices are hefty, but the menu is eclectic & fancy, so it’s almost justifiable…i wouldn’t eat here everyday though, only if i happen to be in the area.

Grilled Cuban
lots of moist pork slices on a tasty baguette w/pesto spread. comes w/a mountain of straw fries. i’d order this sandwich again.
