It's about time Northwest Indiana!

I was hesitant to eat at the newest addition of NW Indiana restaurants due to past disappointments, but I’m glad I did. My great dining experience started as soon as I walked up to the door and was greeted by the smiling, friendly, and welcoming hostess. Soon after my date and I were seated we ordered drinks. He was impressed by the variety of beers to choose from and the martinis were excellent, my favorite is the key lime martini. The menu is very unique and there’s so much to choose from. The server was super friendly and took the time to answer questions, she was very informed on the menu and gave great suggestions. We started off with the appetizer sampler, the fried pickles were excellent and put Hooters fried pickles to shame. My date ordered the stuffed burger; he said it was so juicy and perfectly seasoned that he ordered another one to take home for lunch the next day! The salmon I ordered was hands down the best I’ve ever had. I will definitely go back to Hi-Fi and undoubtedly recommend it to my friends and family. Finally, I can have a night out and enjoy great drinks, excellent food, and A++ service right in my neighborhood!

FINALLY NOT ANOTHER CHAIN

My wife and our neighbor decided to try Hi Fi Restaurant for an adult evening of drinks and dinner. Wow is the first thing that comes to mind. As we were approached by the friendly host with a friendly smile, we than went to the bar to wait for our friends. We noticed the restaurant is non smoking BRAVO. My wife fell in love with the drink menu which was interesting enough to want one of each. we enjoyed our cocktail and than proceeded to our table, which was a very comfortable booth with plenty of room. The menu unique and very different from the normal chain restaurant. We were greeted very quickly by an upbeat, cheerful server. We each ordered something different. We started with the sampler and was truly impressed by the food. I ordered the New York steak and was cooked to perfection and was so flavorful. My wife had the whitefish which was fresh and satisfying. The service was A++++++++ our demands were met and we were overly grateful. We ended our meal with the fried Twinkies which came rec commanded by the server and was a delightful ending to a great meal. The atmosphere was very energetic and full of smiling faces. Thank u Hi Fi for bringing a touch of down town Chicago dining to Highland. The only downfall was the distance we had to park in the rear of the building. Our overall dining experience was overly exceeded and will return many times, and will tell the neighborhood. Welcome to Highland HiFi

Not Worth Your Time

Slow service on a modestly busy day. Food comes from the same distributor that provides for chain restaurants, like Applebee’s, yet HiFi believes they should charge twice the amount. Maybe for their dark and bland atmosphere? The food was bland, the tap beer had an odd taste, and when I asked to speak to a manager about the lack of service, she first stared at my table from a far, then came over with an attitude. The server himself was very nice, but the restaurant itself sucks.

Imagine two burgers slapped together with less than an ounce of blue cheese (should be more of course), squished between a stale bun that’s been toasted to fool you into thinking it is fresh. You also get baked beans straight from a can, a spoonful of coleslaw (which actually is good), and a pickle. Having been a manager in restaurants for years, I can tell you this burger costs them about 2.35 (labor included) and costs you 12.00.

Not impressed. Perhaps opening month jitters?

The decor is pretty nice. The map of NWI is impressive. The wait staff were nice and dressed well. That’s really about it for the good.

I feel the food was a bit pricey for what we got. I tried the “Hog Eggs” which were little more than hard boiled eggs that were halved, battered, then deep fried. They were a little on the bland side and sat in my belly like a rock. My wife ordered the appetizer portion of the Crab Cake. It was extremely over-priced. And, yes, it was a single crab cake smaller than a hockey puck. I forget what the price was. I think it was around $10.00 or so. My wife said it was good so I let that be… for now. I ordered the Polish Sausage which was smothered in chili. This turned out to be a knife and fork meal. When I cut into it and tasted it there was a very farmilliar taste. It was actually 2 hot dogs!!! Actually, it was 1.5 hot dogs. Since we waited a little longer than I had expected to get our food I decided to choke it down and live with it but I was definitely going to express my dissatisfaction to management. When I had that opportunity I explained my / our dissatisfaction with the quality / quantity of our meal I was told the customers weren’t really liking the polish sausage so they switched to a hot dog. I asked “Why was I not informed”? I just paid like $12.00 (I forget how much the plate really cost but it was definitely up there.) for a damn hot dog!?!?" I then asked for the reason that a single crab cake would cost so much. I was told they were only using the very best crab meat. Hooray for that! However, we aren’t dining in some world famous fish house like Nick’s Fish Market or Shaw’s Crab Shack where the restaurant in and of itself can justify paying such top-dollar for a simple crab cake. I left the restaurant feeling mislead and dissatisfied and about $50.00 poorer. For what it’s worth, the kids plates are served on a souvenier frizbee. That was kinda cool.

It wasn’t even a polish sausage. It was a damn hot dog!!!! The waitress said nothing about any change in menu!!!! It wasn’t even taken off my bill when I expressed a complaint!!!
