Oldest Restaurant in Costa Mesa, and Still Going Strong
Dick Church’s is the oldest restaurant in Costa Mesa, and quite possibly Orange County (although I’m not positive so I won’t state it as fact.) In any case, DC’s is a place to get delicious American style meals. Weekend breakfasts are usually busy and there is sometimes a wait depending on what time you come, but it’s worth it. The waitresses have worked there for years and they know what they’re doing. The customer base consists of many regulars and locals, and during the summer OC Fair guests stop by. Some dishes are better than others, but all are good. I’ve listed a few of my favorites for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Also, I listed that I came here for a family meal, because that’s truthfully what started me coming. I bring friends when I can though, just because I enjoy some of the food so much.
If anyone cares, some local celebrities frequent the place with their own families (that’s how much of a family restaurant DC’s is) including some of the guys from Sugar Ray who live in the area =)
The service is friendly, and the food is good. It isn’t fancy, and the age is there, but it’s a nice, comfortable place and I highly recommend it. Explore the menu – there are a lot of hidden gems (cinnamon rolls, ice cream, shakes, etc.) Try the daily soups as well… and don’t forget to check out the daily specials =)
-
Eggs Benedict
One of the best breakfast dishes EVER. The hollandaise sauce is supreme, and they don’t skimp. Also, unlike many other restaurants, they actually use canadian bacon, which is traditionally what is supposed to be used. (And yes, it DOES make it taste much better.)
-
Chili and Beans Omelette
Also another breakfast favorite. The chili is home made and delicious, and again, they give you a lot. With hashbrowns and orange juice, it’s the perfect breakfast meal.
-
Monte Cristo
Ham, turkey, and lots of cheese on two thick pieces of egg bread = tastiness for either lunch or dinner. This monte cristo is a bit healthier than the original monte cristos because it isn’t deep fried. I like this better, but I’m giving it four stars in case someone is looking for an ultra traditional monte cristo.
