I came to Cafe Yulong with four star Yelp expectations, but left disappointed. It wasn’t bad, but Chinese in Mountain View is generally a little too similar and not that great. I thought the combination of Northern Chinese and Yelp reviews was going to make Cafe Yulong different. But Cafe Yulong just sat right in the middle of my Chinese experiences.

We got the fish and leek dumplings I had heard so much about. The fish tasted like egg, which actually was appealing, but the dumplings were rather dull and lukewarm. The garlic green beans with chicken were also too familiar. The green beans were tasty enough, but the chicken breast chunks were not very tasty. The beef noodle soup was a little mixed. The beef was stringy and soft, but not of the greatest quality. The noodles were typical and difficult to eat because of their length. The broth was a little oily and a little spicy (and hurt like a bitch when I got some in my eye spinning around the noodles), but wasn’t the greatest either.

The portions and prices were good and I could imagine better options on the menu, but since I came in prepared with Yelp recommendations, I’m not totally confident this place will be a keeper.
