This restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and good food. I had the pleasure of ordering several appetizers, of which the plantain nachos and the jerk chicken wings were outstanding. The meal is good aswell, though next time i think I would want to try the jerk chicken because the appetizer was so good. Service for me was not bad, I was with a vegan, who the waiter went to check with the chef to make sure there were no dairy or other ingredients of the like. All in all it was a fun experience with good food I give Calypso a 4 out of five.

Food was great, but the service was just unbelievably bad.

I had the jerk chicken sandwich and the black bean soup w/ saffron. The sandwich came with the blue water slaw and a choice of another side. I usually don’t like slaw but I liked this one. I could have sworn I ordered sweet potatoes as my other side but I got plantains instead (first mistake of the waiter for the night?).

It took a long time for our waiter to serve us our meal. We didn’t notice how long we were waiting b/c we were caught up talking but it was a long wait. When they finally came, my soup was not even there! Soup usually goes before the main dish, right? So I had to remind the waiter about my soup and he didn’t know which soup so he obviously forgot about it.

Throughtout our meal our waiter didn’t come back to check on us. Water was running low. In the end we asked for the dessert menu. The waiter gave us descriptions of the dessert and even recommended one that he liked. We needed time to decide, said he’d come back. We finally decided but our waiter never came back to ask us about dessert again. We had to flag him down.

When we got our dessert order we asked for extra fork. He said he’d be right back, I knew he wouldn’t. I said we should go ahead and eat the dessert and not wait for him. We somehow managed to get forks (from another table maybe). True enough he never came back w/ the forks.

I would like to think this waiter was just new or was having a bad night b/c I would like to go back to this place.

It would have been 4 stars if not for the horrible service.
