This is just so bad. I guess being used to true “fish camp” style places in N.C. (Charlotte, Gastonia, Shelby, even Rock Hill for goodness sake) – this just doesn’t cut it. I’ve heard folks talk about “you gotta go there, it’s wonderful”…not sure what they are comparing it to, but — No. To each his own. We both love fried catfish, but not cooked so hard the crust almost breaks teeth – or so undercooked inside it turns to mush. That’s what we had, we even gave it a second chance recently – it had been awhile and “things change.” This had not changed.
Fried, dried and laid to the side? Is that the old expression? there is another, “rode hard/put away wet” – this was just awful. Mine cooked so hard – biting into it reminded me of overcooked pigskins, you bite into and they kind of “rattle” in your mouth (at least after a minute they kind of dissolve – this stuff just sits there!
Husbands wasn’t quite as hard, but like mush on inside. Catfish cooked right is wonderful-tender-firm – that slight musky flavor – but “musky mush” isn’t what we look for!
I’m happy for those who like the place, I just can’t go there again!
I do still tip reasonable if the service is reasonable – the food isn’t the fault of the waitperson!
