Aptly named
Fresh fresh fresh.
Small plate/Tapas style servings.
The recipes feature locally grown and organic veg, fruits, and meats.
Excellent service, convivial host, unpretentious boho design
This is our second visit to The Superior. last night we celebrated our 6 yr wedding anniversary in style.
We could think of no other place in Victoria that has the combination of service, food, entertainment and non-touristy vibe to enjoy a night out.
We over ordered but we just couldn’t resist revisiting some of the things we had before and trying new exciting sounding items.
A jazz trio played at the end of the room (Steve Grebanier Trio) —very excellent local musicians.
Other patrons looked to be an eclectic mix of young hipsters to elderly couples. Dress varied from almost prom clothes to jeans and fleece jackets (Oh Victoria, what’s the deal with your love of fleece?)
The convivial host was everywhere, greeting patrons at the door, chatting with regulars and newcomers alike.
Outdoor seating available in a lovely garden space with obligitory gas heaters to ease the chill of the sea breeze.

Eggplant covered with chickpea crust
Can’t remember the real name but this is an amazing dish. Not a big fan of egplant but this was could convince me that it is something to desire.
Baby eggplants (japanese?) covered with a sweetish coating of chickpea batter and deep-fried to perfection. A must have. -
Sinatra flatbread
Delicious combination of tomato, bocconcini and basil on a nicely textured and tasty pizza-like flatbread.
-
Stormpetrel crab cakes
Crab and scallops cakes. So fresh, so-ooo very very good.
-
Toki tuna tataki
Unbelievable. You have to eat to appreciate the complexities of flavours this offers.
-
Root chips
Served in a small galvanized bucket and a side of sweet chili aioli —the perfect appetizer to munch on while surveying other diners enjoying the music and sipping a glass of wine.
-
Pork Belly
Yummy, with one minor quibble —the beauty of pork belly is the combination of flavour, chewy fattiness, and crispiness. The crispness was lacking.
Served on a bed of white starchy goodness (no idea what is was) and flavourful stewed apple chunks. -
Beet & Goast cheese terrine
Oh so good, of way too much to eat.
Kind of unfair to rate this as by the time I got around to trying it I was close to bursting and could only manage a small piece of the generous serving.
