We were eager to check out this place, which was recommended to us by our innkeeper. When we arrived we were greeted with an impersonal: do you have reservations? This was the greeting I heard given to every customer entering thereafter. There was a coldness of the place, both in the personnel & space; in addition, the tenor of the people dining had a lack of joy and pleasantness. The pasta dish I ordered was cool when it arrived at the table, the pasta was overcooked and falling apart, and the sauce was tasteless. I am usually very easy to please and can find something likable about anything; but, truthfully, I left feeling a resentment toward my dining experience at this place. I will not go back. Very unsatisfactory. I had a sense of, well, down-right snobbishness about the place.
Pleasant surprise!
When walking by this cafe, the menu didn’t wow me, but the woman at the visitor’s center suggested it and told us about a local deal there on Monday nights. On Monday nights, there is no corkage fee, and they offer a prefixe dinner for $25 per person. It was fabulous. We started with a soup or salad. I got the soup and was really impressed. Then the entree was a pasta dish that was fabulous and incorporated fennel seeds. It was great! The dessert was a plum cobbler. Great experience! We ate outside in the garden. Although it was chilly outside, the outdoor heating lamp kept us at a comfortable temperature. The prefixe deal was not on the menu so you just have to be ‘in the know’ I guess. Ask about it!
