Good lunch buffet (but a little pricey)

Amber has a great lunch buffet. I’ve been here more times than I care to admit when I was with HP in Palo Alto. The food (even during buffet) is truly top notch. If you decide to go for lunch though, watch out for the lunch crowd. Not only will it be harder to get a table, but the line for the buffet can get long as well and who likes just standing in the buffet line looking at the food?? I advise going a little before lunch hour like around 11:30.

What I ate:

Good selection of vegetarian and meat dishes, including Butter and Tandoori Chicken. The selection might not be as great as some of the larger lunch buffets like Passage to India, but the food is better quality here.

Extras:
I came here for
a business meeting
My meal cost
between $10 and $25
I tipped
less than 15%

Best Indian food in Bay Area?

Amber India serves North Indian food in a tiny, cheap-looking strip mall off of El Camino. If you like Indian food and you live in the South Bay, then you probably already have eaten here. Their prices aren’t cheap (it’s even $1-2 more at the Santana Row location), but they serve high-quality Indian food and have been called the best Indian restaurant in the Bay Area for several years now.

For me, it’s all about the Butter Chicken (aka Chicken Makhani). With some fresh, hot naan, I don’t think I’ve had a better Indian dish. The sauce is just… flavorgasmic. The Chicken Biryani is cooked with rose water, giving it a very nice flavor (but the chicken chunks are too big for my taste). Their tandoori dishes are tasty, and the Mulligutwany soup is also pretty good. I used to like the Dum Aloo Bukhara, but on a recent visit it was disappointing. Also, their kormas are a little too creamy for me. But again, it’s all about the Butter Chicken.
