There is a distinct difference between Mexican food and Tex-Mex. Chuy’s has figured that out. Completely Austin, Chuy’s embodies Austin’s motto of “Keep Austin Weird.” they even sell a variety of t-shirts that support this. However, it isn’t the atmosphere that makes this place great. It’s the food. Everything is delicious. My personal favorite is the shrimp rellenos with deluxe tomatillo sauce. But I’ve tried just about everything. The Elvis combo is great. At a lot of restaurants the rice and bean side dishes are afterthoughts without a lot of flavor, but at Chuy’s I could make a meal off of just those. The margaritas are great too. However, this is one of the most identifiable restaurants in Austin, so you will have to wait. Also, if you want authentic Mexican food, thisisn’t the place. It’s sctrictly tex-Mex.
