The toro tartare was amazing. The sea urchins were deliciously fresh and sweet. A delicious meal was had by all.

Didn’t have reservations at Nobu so we walked into Next Door for dinner. It didn’t disappoint.

Cheaper, but just as good at the original Nobu. Mmm, sushi. The presentation and the atmosphere may not be as nicely done at Nobu, but if you don’t feel like waiting around for a seat to open up at Nobu for more expensive and slightly better food, opt for this spot.

I’m sure Nobu was cutting edge back in 1994 when it first opened, but miso black cod and yellowtail with jalapeno appears on every other menu across the nation now. It’s still good, don’t get me wrong, but for all the hype, it’s not pushing any envelopes these days.

Forgot one thing

Next Door Nobu has the same kitchen as Nobu except it’s “easier” to get into as there is a, no reservation, policy. Nobu does not advertise its actual reservation line (which there are several that rotate).

Still at the Top.

Still at the top! Over a period of three yrs I’ve been here probably around twenty times. Yes, I strayed every now and then(this is New York) but as amazing as Morimoto, Megu, Sushi of Gari and Sushi Yashuda are, they don’t quite have the Peruvian-Japanese influence that Chef Matsuhisa articulates in his cusine. For anyone who did not like their first time at Nobu or are planning their first time soon, please consider trying the Nobu house specialties. Sashimi Salad, Yellowtail with Jalapeno, Lobster Ceviche, Rockshrimp Tempura with Spicy creamy Sauce, Squid Pasta, New Style Washu Beef (Californian raised Kobe Beef) and the signature item, Black Cod Miso (try the off the menu version in the butterlettuce cups). Nobu does have excellent sushi but it’s these signature items that make it truly amazing. Oh, Nobu is also a famous person hangout. Our last visit Mark Wahlberg and his entourage sat at the table next to us(he didn’t have any of the signature items!?!!?) I withheld 5 stars only because we have not been to Masa.
