Sotto Sopra.... a functional place for quality food
Sotto Sopra, located on N. Charles Street, in Baltimore, MD, is an excellent place for a romantic evening or a nice family meal. The red schemes throughout the restaurant play off of the Italian flair. On the walls are paintings by area artists, that lend to the cozy feel of the place. The meals are of a high quality for less than one would expect. For similar quality, it is possible to pay double the price at another restaurant. I rate it 4 stars, in that it is a nice, functional place, with good food, and though the food was not necessarily 5-star, it is as close as I have come to that, in a small establishment.

Lobster Gnocchi
One of the specials of the night was a dish of 6 gnocchi stuffed with succulent lobster. Atop these little delicacies was a mint-tomato sauce, which had a smooth bite, and left a cool lingering on the back of the tongue. Garnishing the gnocchi, which were carefully arranged in a circular pattern atop the suare plate, was a small pile of onion crisps, such as one might find atop a steak at a quality chop house. Also adorning the plate were 4 shrimp, cooked in the mint-tomato sauce. Staggered on each corner of the square plate this rested upon, were drops of gourmet salsas; peach and raspberry. lining the edges of the plate was a pesto oil. All in all, the meal had a debonaire feel to it. From the crisp aftertaste of the mint-tomato sauce, to the dynamic mix of flavors from seafood to fine sauces, this meal was among my favorite five meals I have ever eaten. At only $19.00, it was a bargain, as a fusion-cooked feasts such as these can cost in excess of $50.00 at some restaurants.
