Food = 4 stars, Service = 2 stars
We had lunch at Crema during restaurant Week. Walking in, we delighted at the warm decor with screaming orange walls that somehow fit the place perfectly.
The Restaurant Week menu was a bit of a joke, since Crema already had a prix fixe menu for lunch where you could order certain starred items. The downside was that only the lower-prices items were offered on the prix fixe menu, so when my analytical mind took to calculating I realized that there was no discount involved at all. Which then brought me close to thinking that the restaurant Week menu was almost false advertising. Nice way to fly by on the cheap, Crema.
I ordered a salad and Taquitos de Chilorio for lunch. I initially ordered the Burrito de Mole Poblano, but priced at $14 it was not on the prix fixe menu. So, I went with the taquitos at $12 instead. The service was good, but it took a looooooong time for our food to arrive. The salads came and were delicious, but we were able to make it through the first few chapters of War and Peace before our lunch entrees arrived. The wait turned out to be worthwhile, and the taquitos were perfectly seasoned and delicious.
Overall, I was disappointed by the “bait and switch” feeling I was left with until leaving Crema. That, and the fact that our food took forever to reach our tummies, might not have me making the trek to Crema again. The food gets four stars, but the service time and restaurant’s penny-pinching tendencies only get two stars.
