One of my favourite tables… well really… anywhere! A boisterous atmosphere where I would stay forever if they didn’t close… and run out of food.

I’ve tried Guu on Thurlow several times the food was quite good. I’ve read many other comments saying the Guu on Robson was better… They were right.

The food quality was on par or better than Thurlow. But the main difference is the atmosphere. The place felt more open and alive.

I do have to admit that service was a little bit on the slow side. Taking the order and bring the drinks was slower than expected. I don’t know if it was just because it had just opened and was dealing with the first rush.

I tried about 7 dishes and the one I would skip ordering again would be the Oden. First time I tried it and nothing too special. Other dishes included (don’t know proper menu name) Shrimp with Avocado, Salmon Sashimi, Baked Mackerel, Baked Oyster, Calamari, Seafood Pancake. I especially liked the Sashimi, Pancake, and Calamari.

With 1 drink, total meal was about $46 for 2.

I would definitely go to this one again. But I still will try the Gastown one whenever I’m down that way.

Adding this one to my rotation.

We came here last winter (I’m from Toronto).. The food, the atmosphere, and the experience was most excellent! I tried ‘sochu’ for the first time.. seems like a Japanese version of Korean soju.. :) Pretty good stuff! Hoping to go again sometime.. Though we’ll probably try to hit every Guu first… (Tomorrow is Guu on Water St)

yum, ya the Guu chain continues to be one of my all time favourites. This location offers a bit more polish than Thurlow and of course the garlic! A genuine Japanese experience.

Guu'd Food

This particular Guu is known as Guu with Garlic. Out of all the ones in downtown Vancouver, I would have to say it is the best. It is a small restaurant and usually has a lineup of people waiting to get in even when it is raining. Why? Because the food is really Guu’d. The dishes are tapa sized allow for you to select quite a nice variety of food. Price is not too bad either, not cheap but not expensive either.
