hurry to the curry hut

Talk about a diamond in the rough… of Highwood. In my two years of living up north, I had never tried this humble place. Until now, after reading the review on menuism.

Upon walking in, I was greeted with the scent of various masala spices and super-friendly host and staff. The environment is very welcoming, decorated in warm reds and soft lighting.

Our group of friends went with the family style, where we can share all the dishes together. Highly recommend it – it’s like a mini buffet! :) Food is absolutely wonderful: aromatic, elegantly colorful, and just the right amount of spice to appreciate what good Indian food should taste like. I’m definitely making that extra detour to Highwood to come back here! Hie thee hither too!

Dishes I tried:

Lamb Tikka

Grilled lamb slices that come out SIZZLING on top of onions and assorted veggies. The friendly host gave us a tomato based sauce that went well with the lamb.

Masala tea

Creamy, milk-added tea, kinda reminiscent of Thai teas. Add sugar to your liking but flavorful without.

My fave...

This is my favorite Indian restaurant in North Chicago. They also serve Nepalese food but I have yet to try it. The dining atmosphere is nice and quiet with low lighting, though they can get really busy at night! But everyone who works there is still really nice and courteous. I’ve gotten great service every time. They also do take-out which is nice every once in a while. It can get a bit pricey, but it’s definitely worth it in my opinion!

Good every time! Lots of oil though, so be careful if you have a sensitive stomach!

Who could turn down some yummy garlic naan? They definitely don’t skimp on the serving either!

good indian, great service

from the outside, curry hut almost looks like a fast food indian place. but walk in and you’ll find a beautifully decorated, fairly large restaurant. the food here is good, but the real shining star is the service – you’ll feel taken care of and like an important customer. (they even comp’d dessert – mango ice cream for our table!)

i came here w/friends, and the ambience was just right. it’d work for a casual couples’ night out or a family dining night.

if you’re looking for good indian near CMS, give curry hut a try! you won’t be disappointed.

this is what i always get when i eat indian – so i’m a bit of a palak paneer snob. this was good with its juicy paneer (cheese) blocks, but a little more mushy than what i’m used to. still a good palak paneer, and i’d order it again.

flavorful, slightly tough slices of roasted lamb. i really enjoyed this dish, and would recommend it to meat lovers.

mahi mahi can be tough, but suprisingly this fish was tender tender tender and supremely flavorful – i.e. not too fishy. if you like BBQ fish, give this one a try!
