Best of the Mission

El Farolito is my current favorite for Mission Burritos. The restaurant is dingy at best, but the food quality is high. There is a painting of a gyros/al pastor machine on the back wall that is emblazoned on my brain.

What I ate:
  • *****

The perfect torta: crispy bread, lots of avocado, sour cream and fried on the grill to absorb the flavors of everything else.

  • ****

A meal for 2. Do not think you can eat the nachos and something else. You are wrong, my friend.

Great after-hours grub, classic burrito made right!

Always mentioned in the “best burrito in SF” debate, El Farolito is great because it is open til 3am on Friday and Saturday nights. Club hoppers all over the city venture down to Mission & 24th to get some great Mexican food at decent prices.

What I ate:

One of the better carne asada burritos I’ve had, El Farolito makes the meat right in front of you. The beef is just slightly singed on the outside, juicy on the inside; the fillings are loaded in there. The burritos are great even the next morning.
