Enjoyable French experience
After seeing the colorful and musical restaurant website, I just had to see what this restaurant was going to be like. When we first got there it was a bit hard to find the restaurant since there’s no name on the building – just look for the brightly colored restaurant.
The inside is pretty homey feeling and it’s a small dining room. Our waiter was undeniably french and the accent really made the experience much better. He was very friendly and helpful with the wines and recommendations.
You can order ala carte dishes or choose to do a multi-entree meal by choosing from some choice on the front. We all went with ala carte this time (and the dishes actually aren’t that expensive), but I want to try to come back and go for the full multi-course experience.
Dishes I tried:
Provencal Ratatouille
I saw this on the menu and had to try it since I’ve never had ratatouille. It was basically vegetables in a tomato-based sauce. The vegetables were very soft, but I feel like it could have used more flavor.
Les Fromages
mmm, I love cheese and this was actually a pretty good deal as far as cheese plates go. 9 different cheeses with a wide range of flavors including an extra strong blue cheese at the end.
Rabbit Fricassee
Rabbit is my new favorite meat. Whenever I see rabbit on the menu I order it. I’ve never had fricassee before, so this was an unusual experience for me. Basically, it comes out in a pot and they give you an empty plate. And then I guess I’m supposed to just scoop some of it out into my plate and then eat it? I feel like they could have left that step out and just put it all on the plate to start…I guess it’s a presentation thing :) The rabbit meat was good though. It would have been nice to have some other kind of starch to eat the tasty sauce with.

cozy french
we couldn’t find the name ’cyrano’s’ outside this restaurant, but as it was the only place w/anything remotely french on it, we walked in for dinner to find a cute, cozy french bistro. the decor and ambiance exude a strong french flavor, and the dim-lighting along w/our friendly, (very) french waitor only added to its charm. the food wasn’t quite as good as i hoped it would be, and the prices were a bit on the higher side, but given this is one of the few casual french places i know in the city, i would definitely not mind returning.
Dishes I tried:
Les Fromages
can you ever go wrong w/cheese plates??? a fun variety of cheeses w/a side of purple grapes and raisin breads to nicely complement and decorate the plate.
Grilled Salmon
an elegant slice of grilled, seasoned salmon sitting on a bed of couscous & hidden spinach w/a yellow sauce on the side. the dish looked beautiful and i really wanted to enjoy it thoroughly, but the salmon was a bit dry and the couscous was too salty for me. i did love the seasoning and probably could’ve finished my meal if i hadn’t splurged on the baguettes and cheese plate we ordered earlier.
