extraordinary prices too
i stopped by for the 1st time on a sunday evening after dinner, and boy was it crowded (or so i thought—the line was even longer when i left.) the prices are hefty for these beautifully presented and deftly baked desserts, but i guess that doesn’t stop people from frequenting this dessert shop/cafe at late night. there’s a nice covered outdoor patio (w/heat lamps) and a pleasant cafe interior for couples or large groups. you order at the counter and receive a number, then someone brings you your desserts.
the desserts were delicious, not too sweet or heavy, but given the prices…i think there are better, more affordable options out there too. worth a visit though if you’ve never tried.

Passion Fruit Ricotta Torte
i always forget how tart passion fruit can be, which is why i gave 4 instead of 5 stars. overall though, the cake is spongy and mmm good, and the cream is light with the fruit slices adding a nice refreshing touch. comes decorated in a fancy pool of red-orange sauce that sweetens the cake even more.
-
Fraisier Triple Berry Torte
although the cake isn’t as spongy and moist as the passion fruit torte (actually almost borderline dry), the lack of passion fruit tartness made this more ‘even’ tasting berry cake my kind of cake. maybe more sauce would even out the dryness of the cake.

Choco St Sp
wow that’s chocolate indulgence. comes w/a side of vanilla ice cream to sugar it up even more (if you’re not getting enough from the chocolate already) and moisten the flaky, chocolatey pastry. too sweet for me.
-
Mocha Macadamia Cookie
dry and a bit crunchy/airy, this cookie tasted old…maybe a bit stale. definitely not worth $2.50.

Order the Mezzi Platter - extra rustic breads...
Order the Mezzi Platter – extra rustic breads . They have chic and tasty cocktail, the BEST desserts i have ever had (huge deal for me to say) – the blood orange ricotta cake with passionfruit and raspberry sauce is my favorite. The only weak area of the menu is the panini section – stick to small bites, salads, and DESSERTS!
Dessert is the best meal in a day, right?
There are two extraordinary desserts in SD, and I wasn’t really sure which one I picked when decided: it could be a cafe-style or trendy restaurant-style. We ended up with the cafe-type location, which was really nice and cozy. The outdoor seating was perfect for summer san diego nights, and is comfortable feeling overall. Unfortunately there was a long line to order, but that was somewhat expected. You wait in line, look at all the pretty desserts, order at cashier, and sit. They bring the desserts to you.
Now to the main reason you’re reading this: their desserts! We got 2 desserts: a flourless chocolate cake and a Shangri La cake. When you get your desserts they look even more delicious since they pretty it up and put some tasty sauces all around. They also put random flower petals around the dishes. Fancy. The taste of the desserts were very good, but I’ve had better at some places. A huge plus was that they didn’t overwhelm you with sweetness and the flavors were pretty original compared to standard fare. Nonetheless, I’ll take a molten chocolate volcano at a nice restaurant over these fancy desserts anyday. I would definitely go back and try even more desserts, they all look super delicious, and I think its a matter of picking right.

Flourless Chocolate Cake
We actually thought this was a brownie with fruit on the top, but when we bit into it, it definitely did not have the brownie flavor. The lack of flour gives a very different taste, which I think is to force you to use their like 4-5 different sauces and vanilla cream on the side with it. There were a bunch of different, nicely ripe fruits on top. The only 2 sauces I can remember were kiwi and mango.

Shangri-La
tall, white cake with a small amount of fruit and some very tasty sauces around it.
